100 Years of Creativity in Spain in the 20th Century

As a sequel to last year task "100 years of innovation in 20th-century Spain", 1st bachillerato students have continued, during the last term of the school year, to look at the artistical aspect of Spanish creativity in the past century to the present. As a result of their research they have produced a number of videos meant to be regarded as their homage to all the Spanish artists in general and in particular to those chosen here as remarkable,representative contributors to the  20th century art in Spain.

All of them are innovators or transgressors of standard styles in their particular areas of art. For that reason their talents are highly appreciated in the country.

Innovation and creativity,art and science, both fields are complementary and help an individual or country develop and progress.

These artists are the following: Pablo Picasso, Joan Miró and Salvador Dalí as painters; Federico García Lorca, Ana Mª Matute, Elvira Lindo as writers; Sara Baras, Estrella Morente as Flamenco dancer and singer; Alejandro Amenabar, film director; Antonio Banderas, actor and Ainhoa Arteta, opera singer.

100 Años de Creatividad en el Siglo XX en España

Continuando con el proyecto del curso anterior, "100 años de innovación española en el siglo XX", alumnos de 1º Bachillerato han completado el proyecto ,centrándose, en esta ocasión, en la busqueda de la creatividad artística en el pasado siglo. Como resultado de este trabajo son los videos producidos y que constituyen un pequeño homenaje a los artistas españoles en general y en particular para aquellos que quedan aquí seleccionados como representantes destacados de dicha creatividad artística. Todos ellos son innovadores en cierta medida o transgresores otros por cuyo talento han transpasado fronteras y son admirados en el propio país. Ellos son: Pablo Ruíz Picasso, Salvador Dalí, Joan Miró, Federico García Lorca, Ana Mª Matute,Elvira Lindo, Sara Baras, Estrella Morente, Ainhoa Arteta y Antonio Banderas.

Comenius week 2011

From May 2nd to May, 9th we celebrated at IES Ben Gabirol the “Comenius week” in a special way. It was an occasion to celebrate, raise awareness and value the participation of schools in all EU countries in an educational Comenius project

Our center has participated in three Comenius projects so far and we are very pleased and proud of it.

• The Tree of Culture (2000-2003).
• Hands to Europe (2005-2008).
• Minds at work (2009-2011).

We have shared educational projects with five European schools from Germany, Italy, Northern Ireland, Latvia and Italy with whom we have close ties of friendship. Despite the work involved for all students and teachers who have collaborated on the project, we think it has been worthwhile to participate as our center and our students have successfully achieved the objectives we set out for our project:

• Improve our European dimension.
• Visit other countries and cultures and make new friends.
• Develop and improve foreign language learning.
• Develop healthy lifestyles.
• Improving digital competence.
• Develop social, civic, artistic and scientific competences.

The celebration consisted of:

• Exhibition of photos of the trips to Germany, Italy and Northern Ireland, made during the two year project.
• Exhibition of the materials made by our students and the photos of the events organized at our school during the years of the project.
• Tasting of typical dishes from the countries participating in the project.

Semana Comenius

La semana del 2 al 9 de Mayo hemos celebramos en el IES Ben Gabirol La semana Comenius de una manera especial. Una ocasión para celebrar, dar a conocer y poner en valor la participación de los centros educativos de todos los países comunitarios en un proyecto Educativo Comenius.

Nuestro centro ha participado en tres proyectos Comenius hasta el momento y estamos muy satisfechos y orgullosos de ello.

• El Arbol de las Culturas (2000-2003).
• Manos hacia Europa (2005-2008).
• Minds at work (2009-2011).

Hemos compartido proyectos educativos con cuatro escuelas europeas con las que tenemos una relación estrecha y productiva. A pesar del trabajo que supone para todos, alumnos y profesores, que colaboran en el proyecto, pensamos que ha merecido la pena participar ya que nuestro centro y nuestros alumnos han avanzado y conseguido alcanzar con éxito los objetivos que nos proponíamos:

• Mejorar nuestra dimensión europea.
• Conocer otros países y culturas y hacer nuevos amigos.
• Fomentar y mejorar el aprendizaje de lenguas.
• Desarrollar hábitos de vida saludables.
• Mejorar la competencia digital.
• Desarrollar la competencia social y ciudadana, artística y científica.

La celebración ha consistido en:

• Exposición de fotos de los viajes a Alemania, Italia y a Irlanda del Norte, realizados durante los dos años del proyecto.
• Exposición de los materiales realizados por nuestros alumnos y de los eventos organizados en los años del proyecto.
• Degustación de platos típicos de los países que participamos en el proyecto.

Comenius Project Meeting "Minds at Work" in Carrickfergus, Northern Ireland

The last week of March a group of students and English teachers from Ben Gabirol have travelled to Carrickfergus, Northern Ireland to attend the last meeting of our Comenius project “Minds at Work”. Four students: Paola Ramirez, Ana Rasero, Irene Postigo and Paula Toro and three teachers, Ana González, Javier Cámara and Mar Artero  attended this meeting which marks the end of  the project. Students and teachers from other partner schools that also participate in the project have met there as well: the Instituto Superiore Carlo Dell 'Acqua from Italy and Dr. Georg Graf von Arco-Oberschule from Germany. During the stay students have attended classes at Carrickfergus College and have been hosted by Northern Ireland families. Comenius teachers have held meetings to exchange views and experiences on the development of the project and evaluated the activities and tasks performed during the two years the project has lasted. We have also had some spare  time to enjoy the historical sites and amazing landscape this country offers to visitors. We visited the capital, Belfast and the Titanic Quarter, where the world most famous ocean liner "Titanic" was designed and built, the Norman castle of Carrickfergus and the Giant's Causeway, a natural masterpiece located on the north coast of the country. We all enjoyed the experience and we returned home with the hope to establish new ties with our partner schools in future projects.

Reunión del Proyecto Comenius “Minds at Work” en Carrickfergus, Irlanda Del Norte.

La última semana del mes de Marzo un grupo de alumnas y profesores de Inglés hemos viajado a Carrickfergus, Irlanda del Norte para asistir al último encuentro de nuestro proyecto Comenius Minds a t Work: cuatro alumnas: Paola Rámirez, Ana Rasero, Irene Postigo y Paula Toro y tres profesores, Ana González, Javier Cámara y Mar Artero han asistido a este encuentro que marca el fín del proyecto. Alumnos y profesores de las otras escuelas que también participan en el proyecto también se han dado cita allí. El Institituto Carlo Dell’ Acqua de Italia y el Dr. Georg Graf von Arco-Oberschule de Alemania . Durante la semana los alumnos se han alojado en casas de familias norirlandesas y han asistido a clases durante el horario lectivo. Asimismo los profesores han mantenido reuniones para intercambiar opiniones y experiencias sobre el desarrollo del proyecto y han evaluado las actividades y tareas realizadas durante los dos cursos escolares que ha durado . También ha habido tiempo de disfrutar de los lugares de interés histórico, artístico y paisajístico de este país. Hemos visitado la capital, Besfast y las instalaciones portuarias donde se construyó el famoso transatlántico “Titanic”, el castillo Normando de Carrickfergus y la CALZADA DEL GIGANTE, un espectáculo grandioso, una obra de arte natural enclavada en la costa norte del país. Todos hemos disfrutado de la experiencia y nos venido con la ilusión de poder establecer nuevos lazos de unión con estas escuelas en futuros proyectos.

Comenius sport day

Last March 15th we celebrated at Ben Gabirol Secondary school the Comenius Sport Day.

What is special about this day? Very simple. It was the date chosen by teachers and students of our school participating on the Comenius project "MINDS AT WORK" to celebrate our Comenius GYMKHANA. This event is an important part of our planned project tasks for this second term which aims to encourage young people to participate in sports and promote healthy lifestyles among students in all four schools participating and working together on the project. In our school 30 students of 1º BACHILLERATO participated in the Circuit training tests. Groups of 4 students (2 boys and 2 girls) took part on the circuit consisting of 8 different tests to measure their physical ability: sit ups, “flamingo´s balance”, skipping in rope, medicine ball, sprinting, pentasalto, flexibility and reaction test.

The tests were held in the Sport Pavilion at school and were monitored and timed by the PE teacher, Miguel Angel Moya.

All four schools working together on the project will publish the results and scores of their respective students on our BLOGS.

At midday all participants enjoyed a free healthy breakfast: a serrano-ham sandwich with some olive oil, a piece of fruit and a fruit juice.

The event was a success. Everyone had fun and enjoyed taking part and sharing this special sport event at Ben Gabirol school.

 

Día Comenius del deporte 

El pasado martes, 15 de Marzo celebramos en el BEN GABIROL el día Comenius del deporte.

¿Qué tiene de especial este día? Muy sencillo. Es la fecha elegida por los profesores y alumnos de nuestro centro que participan en el PROYECTO COMENIUS “MINDS AT WORK” para celebrar la GYMKHANA deportiva. Este evento forma parte importante de las tareas de nuestro proyecto para este segundo trimestre cuyo objetivo es promover y animar a los jóvenes a participar en deportes y así fomentar hábitos de vida saludable entre los estudiantes de las cuatro escuelas que trabajamos conjuntamente en el proyecto. En nuestro centro 30 alumnos de 1º de Bachillerato han participado en las pruebas. Grupos de 4 alumnos (2 chichos y 2 chicas) han realizado un circuito de 8 pruebas distintas para medir su capacidad física: Abdominales, Equilibrio flamenco, Saltos comba, Balón medicinal, Carrera de velocidad, Pentasalto, Flexibilidad y Prueba de reacción. Las pruebas se han realizado en el PABELLÓN del centro y han sido supervisadas y cronometradas por el profesor de EDUCACIÓN FÍSICA, Miguel Angel Moya.

En el blog de cada centro se publicarán los resultados obtenidos y se podrán comparar las mejores marcas y puntuaciones de nuestros alumnos.

Al final de las pruebas todos los participantes disfrutaron de un desayuno saludable gratuito: bocadillo de jamón serrano y aceite, fruta y un zumo.

La gymkhana fue un éxito. Todos lo pasamos bien participando y compartiendo este evento deportivo tan especial en el Ben Gabirol.

Healthy habits survey

The initial task for our Comenius Project this year aimed at promoting a healthy life among teenagers. In order to achieve this, students in the different partner schools have been making questionnaires to test for teenagers' healthy habits.

At the Third Comenius Meeting in Málaga, last November, the questionnaires contributed by every school were examined and it was agreed that a common number of questions should be shared by the partner schools. These ten questions can be read below.

At Ben Gabirol School, the agreed survey was carried out of 50 students whose ages range from 14 to 16 and the results are shown in the graph slides below. They will enable to compare similarities or differences among the four schools.

These graphs were made by 1st Bachillerato students who are currently responsible for the implementation of the Comenius tasks this year.

Encuesta sobre hábitos saludables en los adolescentes

Alumnos de 1º Bachillerato han llevado a cabo la elaboración de un cuestionario para evaluar los hábitos saludables de los adolescentes, con objeto de promover y concienciar a los adolescentes de la importancia de una vida sana. Esta encuesta forma parte de de la tarea inicial del Proyecto "Mentes en el trabajo" en este su segundo año.

La encuesta consta de diez preguntas que se pueden ver en inglés en la presentación que se muestra más arriba y se ha realizado a un número de 50 estudiantes del centro de edades comprendidas entre 14-16 años.

Los resultados se muestran mediante gráficas realizadas por este mismo grupo de estudiantes y que serviran de compararación con los resultados obtenidos en los demás centros participantes.

Comenius Project Meeting "Minds at work" in Málaga

Last November the first project meeting of our Comenius project “Minds at work” was held at our school, IES Ben Gabirol, in Málaga. From 7th to 12th November a group of teachers and students (18 altogether) from our three European partner schools _ Carrickfergus College (Northern Ireland), Carlo Dell’ Acqua (Italy) and Graf von Arco Schule (Germany), with which we work jointly in the project, visited Málaga those days. We did lots of activities during their stay. During the teachers’ meetings there were discussions, evaluations, exchanging and viewing of materials made by our respective students. We also did the planning of the activities we will be working on throughout this academic course 2010-2011, the second and last year of our project. We had organized a wide programme of cultural and leisure activities for our visitors too. We visited the Picasso Museum, we did a guided walking tour of Malaga’s most interesting old monuments, we rode on the sightseeing bus tour of Málaga, we visited the Sur in English newspaper and went on a trip to Granada to visit the Science Museum. Everyone, parents, teachers and students, thinks the experience has been wonderful. Students had the chance of practicing English at home and at school and they got to know each other a bit better and had a great time here in Málaga. On Friday, 12th, they all left for their respective countries, some students in tears, promising to come back to Málaga very soon.

En el mes de noviembre se celebró la reunión de nuestro proyecto Comenius "Mentes en el trabajo", en nuestra escuela, el IES Ben Gabirol de Málaga.
Del 7 al 12 de noviembre un grupo de profesores y estudiantes (18 en total) de las tres escuelas europeas, Colegio Carrickfergus (Irlanda del Norte), Acqua Carlos Dell '(Italia) y Graf von Arco Schule (Alemania), con los que trabajamos de forma conjunta en el proyecto, visitaron Málaga.
Hicimos un montón de actividades durante su estancia. Durante las reuniones de los profesores hubo discusiones, evaluaciones, intercambio y visualización de los materiales producidos por los estudiantes respectivos. También hicimos la planificación de las actividades que se van a trabajar en todo el curso académico 2010-2011, el segundo y último año de nuestro proyecto.
Habíamos organizado un amplio programa de actividades culturales y de ocio para nuestros visitantes. Visitamos el Museo Picasso, hicimos una visita guiada a pie de los monumentos antiguos más interesantes de Málaga.
También se realizó un recorrido en autobús por la ciudad de Málaga y se realizó una visita guiada al diario Sur en Inglés.
Se realizó una visita al Museo de la Ciencia de la ciudad de Granada.
Todos, padres, profesores y estudiantes, creen que la experiencia ha sido maravillosa. Los estudiantes tuvieron la oportunidad de practicar inglés en la casa y en la escuela, y todos llegaron a conocerse un poco mejor. Lo pasaron muy bien aquí en Málaga.
El viernes 12, todos regresaron a sus respectivos países. Algunos estudiantes se despidieron con lágrimas en los ojos y con la promesa de volver a Málaga muy pronto.

Comenius Project “Minds at Work” 3rd Meeting in Málaga at Ben Gabirol

The next Project meeting of the Comenius Project “Minds at work” is going to take place in Málaga at our school, IES Ben Gabirol, from 7^th to 12^th November. 18 Teachers and students from our three European partner schools with which we work jointly in the project “Minds at work” _Italy, Germany and Northern Ireland_ are attending the meeting. We will be discussing, evaluating and exchanging materials made by our students. We will also do the planning of the activities we will be working on throughout this academic course 2010-2011, the second and last year of our project. We have also organized a wide programme of cultural and leisure activities for our visitors, hoping they will find them attractive, entertaining and enjoyable: a visit to the Picasso Museum, a trip to Granada, a guided tour of Malaga’s most interesting monuments, a sightseeing bus tour of Málaga, a visit to Sur in English newspaper and many more. We are all looking forward to their visit.

Tercer encuentro del Proyecto Comenius "Mentes en el trabajo" en Málaga

La próxima reunión del Proyecto Comenius "Mentes en el trabajo" tendrá lugar en Málaga en nuestra escuela, el IES Ben Gabirol, del 7 al 12 de noviembre.

Dieciocho docentes y alumnos de las tres escuelas europeas asociadas con las que trabajamos en el proyecto "Mentes en el trabajo" - Italia, Alemania y Irlanda del Norte- asisten a la reunión. Se debatirán, evaluarán e intercambiarán los materiales realizados por nuestros alumnos. También realizaremos la planificación de las actividades que se van a trabajar en todo el curso académico 2010-2010, último año de nuestro proyecto.

Hemos organizado un amplio programa de actividades culturales y de ocio para nuestros visitantes, esperando que les parezca atractiva, entretenida y agradable: una visita al Museo Picasso; un viaje a Granada; una visita guiada por los monumentos más interesantes de Málaga; una visita al periódico Sur, en su edición en Inglés.

100 Years of Innovation in Spain in the XX century

Spain has produced over the last 100 years a great number of individuals who have come up with innovative, creative and revolutionary ideas, concepts and works: scientists such as the researches Santiago Ramón y Cajal and Margarita Salas, architects such as Antonio Gaudí and Santiago Calatrava, engineers such as the astronaut Pedro Duque and fashion entrepreneurs such as Purificación García and Amaya Arzuaga. All of them made major discoveries and achievements, great designs or unique buildings and became well known worldwide.
Pupils studying 1º Bachillerato at Ben Gabirol have been researching these innovators as part of our Comenius project ‘Minds at Work’. We hope this task has helped our pupils become aware of the importance of creativity and innovation for personal development as well as for economic growth of a country.

100 Años de Innovación en España en el Siglo XX

En los ultimos 100 años en España se ha producido un gran número de personas que han llegado con ideas innovadoras, creativas y revolucionarias. Personas que han destacado por us ideas, trabajos y obras innovadoras, creativas y revolucionarias: arquitectos como Antonio Gaudí y Santiagp Calatrava, ingenieros como Eel astronauta Pedro Duque, científicos e investigadores como Santiago Ramón y Cajal y Margarita Salas y emprendedoras como las diseñadoras Purificación García y Amaya Arzuaga. Todos y todas realizaron grandes descubrimientos, construyeron edificios singulares, crearon diseños vanguardistas y llegaron a ser mundialmente reconocidos.

Los Alumnos de 1 º de Bachillerato del Ben Gabirol han estado investigando a estos innovadores como parte de nuestro proyecto Comenius "Mentes en el trabajo". Esperamos que este trabajo haya ayudado a nuestros alumnos y alumnas a ser conscientes de la importancia de la creatividad y la innovación para el desarrollo personal, así como para el crecimiento económico de un país.

International Comenius Fair

From May 24th to 29th we held at our school, IES Ben Gabirol, the International Comenius Fair, a very big event which was included in our project planned activities for this year. During those days Comenius students displayed and sold the merchandise products representing the four schools participating in the project: USB-sticks from Germany, the handpainted fans from Malaga, headbands from Legnano and recipe booklets from Carrickfergus. Most students also brought some tapas, sweets and cakes from home which were also sold at the fair. The whole educative community got involved in the event. The achieved profit will be given to the N.G.A called, "the town of the children" which provide boarding and schooling to children in need.

Feria Internacional Comenius
La Semana del 24 al 28 de Mayo hemos celebramos en nuestro centro,  el IES Ben Gabirol, la Feria Internacional Comenius. Este evento forma parte de la serie de actividades y tareas de nuestro proyecto Minds at Work (2009-2011). Cada una de las escuelas de los países que trabajamos en el proyecto (Italia, Irlanda del Norte, Alemania y España) hemos producido un producto que posteriormente intercambiamos en la reunión del proyecto en Abril en Italia. Allí se decidió que cada centro celebrara una feria internacional para poner a la venta los productos producidos por las cuatro escuelas. Carrickfergus College (Irlanda del Norte): Libro de Recetas; Instituto Superiore Carlo Dell’ Acqua (Italia): Banda Refrescante Deportiva; Graf Von Arco Schule (Alemania): Lápiz de memoria y Ben Gabirol (España): Abanicos pintados a mano. El beneficio de la venta de los productos la hemos entregado a la ONG “La Ciudad de los Niños” de Málaga. Toda la comunidad educativa participó y disfrutó del evento.

Second meeting of the Comenius project "Minds at Work" (2009-2011) in Legnano, Italy.

From April 26th to 30th the second meeting of our Comenius project "Minds at Work" (2009-2011) have taken place in Legnano, Italy. We have spent some intense and unforgettable days.

Teachers and students from the four European schools which work together in the project (Spain, Italy, Germany and Northern Ireland) have met at Carlo dell' Acqua school in Legnano, Italy and have discussed, evaluated, and exchanged materials made by our students during the second term of this year. We have also enjoyed the hospitality and warmth of both, teachers and students of our Italian partner school in Legnano. . During our stay we have visited important monuments and cities like Como and Milan

Reunión del proyecto Comenius "Minds at work" en Legnano (Italia)
La semana del 26 al 30 de April ha tenido lugar en Legnano, Italia, la segunda reunión de nuestro proyecto Comenius “Minds at Work” (2009-2011). Han sido unos días intensos e inolvidables.
En las reuniones que hemos mantenido los profesores de las cuatro escuelas europeas que trabajamos conjuntamente en el proyecto (Irlanda del Norte, Alemania, Italia y España) hemos discutido, evaluado e intercambiado los materiales realizados por nuestros alumnos durante el trimestre en curso. Asimismo hemos disfrutado de la hospitalidad y la cordialidad tanto de los profesores como de las familias de los alumnos del centro CarloDell’ Acqua, en Legnano, que nos han acogido y nos han hecho sentir como en casa.
Durante estos días los alumnos y profesores Comenius que hemos asistido hemos visitado lugares de interés: Milán ( El Duomo, El Pirellone, La Galería de Arte Brera, La Galería Victorio Enmanuelle) y el lago Como, hemos aprendido un poco más del patrimonio cultural y artístico de la región italiana de la Lombardía y hemos disfrutado de su rica gastronomía y de su buen clima.

The Comenius "Minds at Work" project official logo

During the first term of the school year the four schools working together on the Comenius project "Minds at work" have been working on the creation of a LOGO to represent the project. Lots of students entered the competition and tried hard to design attractive and imaginative logos. At the meeting in Germany we chose the best among all the logos which were exchanged for the occasion. The winner was the logo design created by Carlo Dell 'Acqua school in Legnano  (Italy). Congratulations, Italy!

Bienvenidos a mi país, mi ciudad y mi escuela en Irlanda

Durante el primer trimestre los estudiantes de todas las escuelas participantes en el proyecto Comenius "Mentes en el trabajo" han estado trabajando en recopilar información sobre su país, su ciudad y su escuela.
Con dicha información los estudiantes de la escuela asociada Carrickfergus College (Irlanda) han elaborado el siguiente documento.

Meeting of project "Minds at work" Comenius in Nauen (Germany)

In early December two teachers, Angeles Jiménez and Ana González, accompanied by two students from 4th ESO, José Javier Romero and Celia Lara, traveled to the city of Nauen (Germany) on the occasion of the first meeting of our project and where they met with representatives of the partner countries, both students and teachers.

Our students have been, for a few days, share school life of the German hosts attending class with them and family life with them. Also participated in other activities organized especially for this visit and learn Potsdam and Berlin.

In the opinion of our students, this has been an unforgettable experience, which have returned very happy thanks to the hospitality of host families and Nauen school.

The aim of this first meeting was the presentation of activities and agreements laid down so far and were: creation of a blog as workspace and communication, the design of logos for the design and creation of information panels on school, city and country of each of the participants.

Then raised the next tasks and visits to be carried out until the next meeting in Italy: creating products and subsequent marketing the products Comenius, fair as well as a digital collage on '100 years of innovation'.

We hope to make a success agreed tasks, and we will put all our enthusiasm, because we believe that it is worthwhile to contact and collaborate on a joint project with other schools in Europe.

Encuentro del proyecto Comenius “Minds at Work” en Nauen (Alemania)

A principios de diciembre dos profesoras, Ángeles Jiménez y Ana González, acompañadas de dos alumnos de 4º ESO, José Javier Romero y Celia Lara, viajaron a la ciudad de Nauen (Alemania) con motivo del primer encuentro de nuestro proyecto, y donde se encontraron con representantes de los países colaboradores, tanto alumnos como profesores.

Nuestros alumnos han podido, por unos días, compartir la vida escolar de los anfitriones alemanes, asistiendo con ellos a clase y vivir con ellos en familia. Igualmente han participado en otras actividades organizadas en especial para esta visita y conocer así Postdam y Berlín.

En opinión de nuestros alumnos, ésta ha sido una experiencia inolvidable, de la que han regresado muy contentos gracias a la hospitalidad de las familias de acogida y la escuela de Nauen.

El objetivo de este primer encuentro ha sido la presentación de las actividades y acuerdos fijados hasta el momento y que fueron: creación de un blog como espacio de trabajo y comunicación, el diseño de logos para el proyecto y creación de paneles informativos sobre la escuela, ciudad y país de cada uno de los participantes.

Después se plantearon las próximas tareas y visitas que se han de realizar hasta el próximo encuentro en Italia: creación de productos y posterior comercialización en la Feria de productos Comenius, así como un collage digital sobre ‘100 años de Innovación’.

Esperamos llevar a buen puerto las tareas acordadas, y pondremos toda nuestra ilusión en ellas, ya que creemos que merece la pena contactar y colaborar en un proyecto común con otras escuelas de Europa.

Welcome to my country, my city and my school in Spain

During the first term of the school year students from all schools participating in the Comenius project "Minds at work"  have been working to gather information about my country, my city and my school.With this information the students of our school, I.E.S. Ben Gabirol, have produced the following document:

Durante el primer trimestre los estudiantes de todas las escuelas participantes en el proyecto Comenius "Mentes en el trabajo" han estado trabajando en recopilar información sobre su país, su ciudad y su escuela.
Con dicha información los estudiantes de nuestra escuela, el I.E.S. Ben Gabirol, han elaborado el siguiente documento.

Official recognition to Andalusian schools participating in Comenius Projects

Last 28th October, the Educational Board of our Autonomous Community in collaboration with the Spanish National Agency, in charge of the Educational European Programmes, held a ceremony in the historical city of Córdoba. All the Andalusian schools which have been involved in Multilateral Comenius Associations were invited to the mentioned event.

Among these schools is our school, IES Ben Gabirol. Our school has been involved and completed two previous Comenius projects: “the Threes of Culture”, with our partners from Northern Ireland and Germany and “Hands across Europe”, more ambitious, with Northern Ireland, Germany, Latvia and Italy. Now, we have just started a third Project with the same partner schools. The official event started with a speech by the Head of the Spanish National Agency which focused on the main objectives of the European programmes : promoting, raising and broadening the European awareness of all participants.

By sharing our cultural heritage, values and lifestyles with our partners in Europe. After that the schools representatives invited to the event were given a commemorative plaque for their participation in Comenius school partnerships. Finally, lunch was served and everybody agreed it was a great opportunity to meet colleagues from all the cities in Andalusia, exchange ideas, opinions, worries and concerns about our respective teaching experiences.

Reconocimiento oficial a las escuelas andaluzas que participan en los proyectos Comenius

El pasado 28 de octubre, el Consejo de educación de nuestra comunidad autónoma, en colaboración con la Agencia Nacional española, a cargo de los programas europeos de educación, celebró una ceremonia en la histórica ciudad de Córdoba. Todas las escuelas de Andalucía que han participado en asociaciones multilaterales de Comenius fueron invitadas al evento mencionado.

Entre estas escuelas se encuentra nuestro centro, el IES Ben Gabirol de Málaga. Nuestra escuela ha participado y completado con anterioridad dos proyectos Comenius: "El árbol de las culturas", con nuestros socios de Irlanda del Norte y Alemania y "Manos a través de Europa", más ambicioso, con Italia, Irlanda, Alemania y Letonia. Ahora, hemos comenzado un tercer proyecto con las mismas escuelas asociadas.

El evento oficial comenzó con un discurso del jefe de la Agencia Española de nacional, que se centró en los principales objetivos de los programas europeos: promoción, sensibilización y ampliar la conciencia europea de todos los participantes. Por compartir nuestro patrimonio cultural, los valores y estilos de vida con nuestros socios en Europa.

Después los representantes de las escuelas en el evento recibieron una placa conmemorativa por su participación en asociaciones de la escuela de Comenius. Finalmente, se sirvió un almuerzo que fue una gran oportunidad para relacionarse con los colegas de todas las ciudades de Andalucía, intercambiar ideas, opiniones y las preocupaciones acerca de nuestras respectivas experiencias de enseñanza.

Former Comenius Projects

Our school was engaged in two Multilateral Comenius School Partnerships Projects in the past. The titles of the projects were: “The Tree of Culture” (2001-2004) and “Hands across Europe” (2005-2008). Carrickgergus College from Northern Ireland, Dr George Graf von Arco-Oberschule (Germany) and Istituto Superior Statale Carlo Dell’Acqua from Italy were our school partners at the time.
Here are some samples of the materials we produced in our most ambitious project “Hands across Europe”: Newsletters, Healthy Eating Recipes and a Calendar about traditions and customs from each country.

Nuestra escuela ha participado en dos proyectos Comenius. Los títulos de los proyectos fueron: "El Árbol de la Cultura" (2001-2004) y "Manos a través de Europa" (2005-2008). Las escuelas asociadas en ambos proyectos fueron: Carrickgergus College de Irlanda del Norte, el Dr. George Graf von Arco-Oberschule (Alemania) y el Istituto Statale Superior Carlo Dell'Acqua de Italia.

Comenius Project: Minds at work

After four elementary schools across Europe, Carrickfergus College (Northern Ireland), Ben Gabirol IES (Spain), Dr. George Graf von Arco-Oberschule (Germany) and Istituto Superiore Statale dell'Acqua Carlo (Italy), are working together on a project entitled "Minds at Work. In celebration of European Year of Creativity and Innovation Students will investigate how individuals and societies of each participating country have contributed to the history, culture and economy of Europe through the innovative and creative thinking. The project will extend the European perspective of the participants and the challenge to plan and complete a series of work projects that will develop their thinking, creative and entrepreneurial in order to prepare them for the world of work within the European Union. The business education will be promoted throughout the project to encourage students to be contributors to the European economy, while modern technology is accepted in all facets of the project work. Using mind the title ' at work ", will address issues of the topics covered in the curriculum to determine how subjects such as history, art, science, technology and languages can contribute to the creative process. The project will also promote the development of healthy lifestyles among students, encourage the development of healthy minds and healthy bodies through sport participation.

The goals of our Comenius project are:

1. To improve quality and increase the volume of mobility involving pupils and educational staff in different Member States.
2. To improve quality and increase the volume of partnerships between schools in different Member States to participate at least 3 million pupils in joint educational activities during the program period.
3. To encourage the learning of modern foreign languages.
4. To support the development of innovative ICT-based, services, pedagogies and practice for lifelong learning.
5. To improve the quality and European dimension of teacher training.
6. To support improvements in pedagogical approaches and school management.

Proyecto Comenius "Mentes en el trabajo"

Cuatro escuelas de secundaria de toda Europa, Carrickfergus College (Irlanda del Norte), el IES Ben Gabirol (España), Dr. George Graf von Arco-Oberschule (Alemania) y el Instituto Superiore Statale dell'Acqua Carlo (Italia), están trabajando juntas en un proyecto titulado "Mentes en el trabajo." En la celebración del Año Europeo de la Creatividad y la Innovación los estudiantes deberán investigar cómo los individuos y las sociedades de cada país participante han contribuido a la historia, la cultura y la economía de Europa a través del pensamiento innovador y creativo.

El proyecto ampliará las perspectivas europeas de los participantes y los retará a planificar y completar una serie de trabajos del proyecto, que desarrollará su pensamiento, creatividad y espíritu empresarial con el fin de prepararlos para el mundo del trabajo en la Unión Europea. La educación empresarial se promoverá en todo el proyecto para animar a los estudiantes a contribuir a la economía europea. Además se fomentará el uso de las nuevas tecnologías en todas las facetas del trabajo del proyecto.

El proyecto abordará temas dentro del plan de estudios en materias como historia, arte, ciencia, tecnología e idiomas, para que los alumnos vean como pueden contribuir al proceso creativo. El proyecto también promoverá el desarrollo de estilos de vida saludables entre los estudiantes, fomentando el desarrollo de cuerpos sanos y mentes sanas mediante la participación en el deporte.

Los objetivos de nuestro proyecto Comenius son los siguientes:

1. Mejorar la calidad y aumentar cuantitativamente la movilidad de alumnos y personal educativo entre Estados miembros.
2. Mejorar la calidad y aumentar cuantitativamente las asociaciones entre escuelas de diferentes Estados miembros, a fin de participar al menos 3 millones de alumnos en actividades educativas conjuntas durante el período del programa.
3. Fomentar el aprendizaje de lenguas extranjeras modernas.
4. Apoyar el desarrollo de contenidos innovadores basados en las TIC, servicios, pedagogías y prácticas en el aprendizaje permanente.
5. Mejorar la calidad y la dimensión europea de la formación docente.
6. Apoyar las mejoras de los planteamientos pedagógicos y la gestión escolar.
